Hi all, I'm in the GTA (do folks outside the GTA know what that is?) & I gotta get this lead acid box out of my trunk!
Can anyone recomend where to go for one? (Keele & Lawrence is my area if you wondered)
I haven't had the car 2 weeks yet & that will be my 2nd mod. 1st was to stick a CDN flag on the back. :-))
I'll be looking for a sound system soon. The stock unit is a model NB 40 66 9CO & it ain't so good on the 407 with the top down!
BTW, I've been lurking about the forum for a few weeks & I gotta offer up a big round of clap for the site! Lotsa knowledge, help & friendly advise.

Looks like I gotta run the old lead acid for a while....
East Penn is out of stock, & Miatafiles sent me this note...
"Welcome to Miataphiles Forums

activate it before you can log in. You will receive another email when this has
occured."
Now I think "the administrator of the board" is out cruizin in the sun & I won't get me in until the snow flies.
The Mazda dealer is selling some made in Taiwan unit that looks sealed, and shows no place to connect a breather hose. Anybody know anything about it?
BTW, East Penn did have some Red & Yellow Top Optima batterys starting at $240. CDN. I'm not sure if they had the right size though.

Yup, it was grey.
Part # 0000-18-135R
Google gave me this (http://www.miata.net/products/pmisc/mazda_replacement_battery.html) link (to a miata.net page) where Eddie Kwong Reviewed the battery 8/9/2003.
I'd like to know a little more about it though. It has no visible vent & I thought all batterys off gassed when charging.
I didn't note the amperage either.
Price was $7.00 more than East Penn ($142.48 vs $135.80 plus taxes).
For now I'll continue my research.

I bought one of those sealed gel cell batteries from the dealer and he said it was the official replacement for Miata batteries, however i find the battery is too small for the tray and the hold down wont keep it from sliding around.. :( $149cdn

I thought this was supposed to be a direct replacement? well, tried to start my car up last night and battery is dead, I'll be looking at getting a trickle charger first and then hunting down the correct battery if that doesn't work out... i've read that the optima yellow top D51r is nearly an exact fit only a bit taller than factory battery and I've seen optima battery's being sold at costco before, wonder if they have this size..
what's the price of a trickle charger, wonder if it even justifies getting one if it's about half the cost of a battery

I got all excited when I saw there was a Miata shop in the GTA! Then I found out it's an Online/Mail Order store only
Anyhow, Their price on the Westco (correct polarity) battery ain't too bad.
$146.00 including delivery chg. (just add taxes) (WOO HOO GST drops a whole 1% tommorow (July 1st))
The East Penn Distributer quoted me $135.00, they didn't have stock & I'd have to go pick it up in Mississauga.
If This Forum gives Performance Plus a good rating, I think I'll order from there & try to support the Miatas in Canada industry.
(on the other hand.... if Performance Plus orders from the states (as I suspect) then East Penn may decide to no longer carry Miata batterys in Canada.... OH What to do?? )

did they mention when parts would be available? My battery died and I don't think there's any reviving it (measured <2V across the terminals).. otherwise I guess I'll try the mazda dealer and again possibly costco for the optima, anybody with any other suggestions on places to purchase a battery for the miata? weather's too nice to leave the car in the garage..:)
