What is the most scenic route on the Glacier Express? ›

A: Every moment on the Glacier Express is special, but the route from Andermatt to Disentis truly stands out. This is where you'll cross the Oberalp Pass, offering a panorama of snow-laden vistas in winter and awe-inspiring mountains in summer. This is a must-see part of the journey!

How many stops does the Glacier Express have and can you hop on and off? You can board the Glacier Express at either end. There are stops en route at Brig, Andermatt, Disentis, Chur, Tiefencastel, Filisur and Samedan, and you can hop off or on at any of them.

Preda & Bergün

Regarded as one of the most spectacular sections of the Glacier Express, the route between Preda and Bergün includes six towering viaducts, giving you an amazing view as you chug along.

There is no official dress code on the train, but passengers should wear comfortable clothing and keep in mind that the train is air conditioned.

Tickets you can always get at the station, but for the Glacier Express you also need a reservation, and those sell out. You need to at least make the reservation (and pay for it) well in advance.

But there's an alternative. The century-old, narrow-gauge Vigezzina-Centovalli railway – between Domodossola and Locarno in Switzerland – costs just €20. This route offers epic views for a fraction of the price of the Glacier Express.
