Would a newer M2 be a better miata for B-stock since it has more power than all the others?

Right now, it looks like the 10AE is the car to beat in B-Stock.

Until the 01 season, see my last post to your previous topic.

Don't tell that to Peter Raymond!!

goldenboy, I understand your logic, but I was there also, and Tim beat me by the same margin he was doing in his 10AE. But, in agreement, the Spyder has little to no R&D yet, so he definitely did well with it.
(Will I see you on Saturday? Finally did the front bar in mine, experimenting a little)

Garfield,
Can't make it sat. We're jewelry designers and our shop is open on sats in Dec for the season. Will be there in Jan tho. Was it you I tied with for third? Danged weathermen messed up the prediction again, so we stayed home Sun. Man I was having trouble getting any traction in Nov, so I guess we didn't miss that much. All Eric and Tim had done to the car at that point was a partial alignment (couldn't get the numbers they wanted on one side) and a set of Kumhos. I still think that their spyder is gonna be real hard to beat once they start sorting out the suspension and get used to the mid engine handling. Rod's getting better times out of his than most of the miatas, mine included.
What size bar did you put in it?
I'm still learning how to dial in my shocks and adjust tire pressures (This was our first season, didn't get our first stickies and the Konis until Sept.)

I've only run two down there, both ProKhanas.
Did the 1 1/8" bar from Racing Beat. Just got what is probably not a good alignment today, there rack had a problem so I'm not even positive the numbers were correct. We'll see. Mail me for more off-topic chat.

It would seem to be either a '99 R package or the 10AE.
Or maybe a 2001. That remains to be seen.

I was wondering if someone could point me in the direction of a Miata purchase. I am looking for a Nationally-prepped competitive M2. I'm not sure where to start looking.
Thanks,

Well, you'll always end up prepping it to your liking, but the '99 Sport or 10AE is a good start.
To either, you would probably do an alignment and a front bar, and thats it. If it's not a Sport package of some sort, you'd want to do shocks.
From there, there are tires, extra lightweight wheels (stock Miata wheels are already relatively light), K&N filter, cat-back exhaust, etc.
This is all assuming you want to run Stock.
You're not far from me, you should hop in for a ride sometime and see what you think.

Garfield,
I've been busy building an older FI miata stricly for the fun of it, but I've become interested in Autocross. I'd like to buy an M2 for B stock.
You said: "a '99 Sport or a 10 AE is a good place to start". The results from the National Solo Championships would certainly seem to confirm this.
Why is this? The 6 speed on the 10 AE? The sport suspension option? Is ABS an advantage? Do the top drivers use it? I'd like to get something competitive so that my daughter and I can get serious about autocross.

There are obviously other opinions, but here's mine:
The '99 Sport has 15" wheels, stiffer springs, bar, and shocks from the factory, plus a strut tower brace, minus a tad of weight from the Leather Package. With the most power yet, the '99's should be the most torquey, great for an autocross.
The '99 10AE has the same setup, plus a lower geared 5 gears. Some courses it helps, some it doesn't.
I personally don't have ABS, didn't have the choice, and would probably get it if I could.
If your going to get serious about autocrossing, to me, these two cars are the obvious choices (or a MR-2 Spyder). This is NOT to say you can't win in an earlier model, but if you can afford a '99, I'd go for that.

Plus, if I recall correctly, in addition to having the Torsen limited slip, my 99 Sport also as a 4.7 rear end ratio. I don't think I'll EVER get rid of this car.

All M2 5-speeds have the same 4.30 rear.

thanks, Chris. Went back and re=checked.
But I sure do think that I saw that 'somewhere'. It'll drive me crazy til I figure out where. Not that it was right...
